Half Roof Design

A half hip roof has two gable ends but at the top of each gable is a small hip that extends to the ridge.

A half hipped roof is almost identical to a simple hip roof design but instead the two sides of the roof are shortened creating eaves at the either side of the house.

Using metal such as copper or zinc for the steep portion of the roof can be more expensive up front but will require much less maintenance down the road making it a good long term choice. This type of roof provides more options for extending the loft and installing windows allowing a greater amount of natural light into the room. The half roof truss design can go up against different style that when nitty gritty right can ooze a cutting edge feel. A combination of a gable and a hip roof pitched roof without changes to the walls with the hipped part at the top and the gable section lower down.
